Desaceleradas reimagines the early cumbia rebajada mixtapes of Monterrey’s Sonido Dueñez — a slowed-down, serendipitous mutation of Colombian cumbia that emerged in the 1990s. Working from Dueñez’s original cassette archives, Debit replays, processes, and re-voices the material using her ARP 2600 synthesizer, her mother’s accordion, and intricate granular techniques.

The result is a slow, dreamlike, and layered dialogue with memory, geography, and community. If The Long Count unearthed hidden pre-Columbian history, Desaceleradas asks how music can resist contemporary cultural erasure by preserving and transforming sonic heritage. (Modern Love, Nov. 7, 2025)
