imaginarios de sal

Lithium 0.2 was the second research and exhibition from the Salt Imaginaries project, looking at lithium ponds and salt residues in the Atacama Desert. Concentración Amarilla is a short video that navigates the rhythms and material cycles surrounding that tiny yet precious 0.2% concentration of lithium that lives in underground brines. The video was projected on an immersive widescreen in front of Agency, the self-created column that was crystalised in the same lithium ponds, capturing salt that would have otherwise been converted into waste.

The video was born from a poem written in the desert and is a collaboration with DEBIT @deliabeat composer, producer and DJ, who created a beautiful sound landscape that submerged the room in soft and electric sounds. Delia creates unique electro-acoustic music and her album ‘The Long Count’ worked with Mayan wind instruments and machine learning to create music that feels completely out of time. A beautiful collaboration that I hope will keep growing soon.
